Weeks Twenty Three to Twenty Six

The sixth month of your pregnancy is one that clearly signals to those around you that you are going to be a proud mother soon, as your weight will have significantly increased thus creating your belly to expand and become more noticeably a rounded ‘pregnant tummy.’ In fact, it is not only your belly that will have become bigger; it is at this point that you will start to get your pregnancy ’glow’ as your face, arms, thighs and bottom gradually increase in size.
As with the previous months when you go to the doctors you will have a regular check up to ensure that your weight, blood pressure, growth of your baby and its heartbeat are progressing healthily. One of the main concerns that your doctor will have at this stage is if you are susceptible to contracting gestational diabetes, a condition that can suddenly develop especially if you fit into any or all of the following categories:

• You have had this condition before;
• You have given birth to a still born child;
• Your blood pressure is abnormally high;
• You are 35 or over;
• You have an immediate family relative, such as a sibling or parent, that has diabetes;
• You are obese;
• You have given birth to a child that was classified as a very big baby.
